Retired Winfield Police Chief Danny Parker Dies; Began 43-Year Law Enforcement Career In Wichita

Former Winfield Police Chief Danny Parker died recently, according to an official announcement from the Winfield Police Department Tuesday night.

Parker with the Cowley County Humane Society canine companion of the week, Budweiser, from 2017.

“We were saddened to learn of the passing of Ret. Chief Danny Parker Wednesday, December 21, 2022. He was 73,” the police department posted on its Facebook page.

“Danny retired as Chief of Police with the Winfield Police Department May 6, 2017, following over seven years of dedicated service to the Winfield community. His law enforcement career spanned 43 years, and included time at the Wichita Police Department, Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, and Concordia Police Department.

“We send our deepest condolences to the Parker family.”

Parker was born in Wichita on March 13, 1949, according to his obituary.

He graduated from Howard High School in 1967 and went on to study vocal music at Southwestern College. After his graduation in 1971, Danny served as a teacher and coach in South Haven and Howard.

He began his long law enforcement career in 1974 as a patrol officer and detective with the Wichita Police Department until 1996.
