Southwestern College will be in the NAIA Football Championship Series for consecutive seasons.

The Builders, fresh off capturing at least a share of the conference title for the second year in a row, will travel to Atchison Saturday to face the No. 6 Benedictine Ravens (9-1) as part of the first round of the NAIA playoffs.

But it won’t be just SC representing the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Avila, who also shares this season’s KCAC title with the Moundbuilders and Bethel, was also selected.

Sunday it was announced No. 10 SC (9-1) and No. 13 Avila would make the 16-team playoff field. The No. 14 Threshers, who defeated Southwestern on Oct. 8 31-23 in North Newton, are staying home.

Avila (10-1), however, beat Bethel (9-1) in Kansas City the next weekend 28-14.

Southwestern defeated No. 25 Kansas Wesleyan (8-3) in Winfield Saturday afternoon 26-20 to secure at least a share of its second consecutive conference championship.

The Avila Eagles will travel to Marion, Ind., to play the No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats (9-1).
