Human remains have been recovered in an area near where the vehicle of Jerry McConnell was found last month. An autopsy is pending to determine the identity of those remains, according to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of local landowners, continued search efforts in the area of 333rd Road for McConnell, 81, who had not been seen since her car was discovered. During the course of the search, personal property belonging to McConnell was located.
Human remains were also discovered approximately one mile from the location where her abandoned vehicle was previously found.
This discovery follows weeks of intensive search operations. On May 20, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Cowley County Deputies were notified that a vehicle associated with a Silver Alert issued from Overland Park, Kansas, had been found on private property in a rural area near the 4000 block of 327th Road.
Despite daily search efforts since the vehicle was located, no further leads were developed until the discovery on June 11.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who contributed time, resources, and support in the effort to locate Jerry over the past three weeks. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her family during this difficult time,” the department said through a release made to the media.
