Sheriff’s office looks for driver involved in accident that critically hurt motorcycle rider

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to look for a driver who is believed to have caused an accident that left a Winfield woman critically injured Tuesday evening.

62-year-old Gena Havner was riding a 1990 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on U.S. 160 highway when the accident occurred. A white pickup truck – make and model unknown – failed to yield the right of way as it turned east from the north side of 21st Rd., also known as Cowley 3.

Havner attempted to stop, lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle, which ended up on its side. She was not wearing a helmet and sustained injuries to her head, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

Winfield EMS transported the woman to a Wichita hospital. Havner was in the ICU as of Wednesday morning.

The case remains under investigation and the identity of the driver who failed to yield is unknown. The sheriff’s office asks that you contact them with any information.
