Ark City commissioners selected Diana Spielman as the new mayor.
During its city commission meeting Tuesday, a unanimous vote was made by commissioners to select a new mayor to serve Arkansas City in 2023.
During the meeting, outgoing Mayor Kanyon Gingher motioned to select Spielman as mayor. Commissioner Charles Jennings made a motion to second the agenda item.
Following her appointment, Spielman motioned to select Commissioner Jay Warren as vice mayor for 2023. The item was seconded by Commissioner Scott Rogers and approved unanimously.
Other appointments during the meeting include adding three governing members of Ark City to be representatives on the Strother Field Commission. Commissioners Warren, Scott Rogers, and Jennings were selected.
Gingher was elected to serve as a representative for Cowley First.
Jennings was appointed to serve as a voting member of the Regional Economic Area Partnership of South-Central Kansas, with Gingher serving as an alternate.
Jennings was appointed to serve on the Arkansas City Public Library Board of Trustees.
Spielman was designated to serve on the Visit Ark City Board of Trustees and Warren was designated to serve the Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum Board of Trustees.
