A shooting investigation, and subsequent standoff between a South Haven man and Sumner County authorities, ended with the man’s arrest.

32-year-old Will S. Eaton was booked into the Sumner County Jail on a charge of attempted murder in the second degree. He remained in jail Tuesday with bond set at $1 million.

On Monday, Sumner County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to 100 North Fredrick in South Haven for the report of a shooting. Responding deputies were told a vehicle had been shot at and struck by a bullet.

There were three occupants in the vehicle at the time. The round penetrated the windshield, sending glass shards throughout the inside of the vehicle.  Two of the occupants were struck with glass, which caused injuries, according to a media release from the sheriff’office.

Witnesses reported seeing a subject lying in the grass. One witness approached the suspect and noticed he had a long rifle, AR-style, with a scope. The suspect entered his residence prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Once deputies arrived, they established a perimeter around the residence, waiting for more resources to arrive. The Southern Kansas SWAT Team was contacted to assist.

For a time, the sheriff’s office asked that residents in the area remain in their homes, due to the standoff situation. After several hours, the suspect left the house and was taken into custody.

Kansas Highway Patrol, South Haven Fire, Blackwell Fire Department, Caldwell EMS, and the Southern Kansas SWAT Team assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
