A Starbucks is coming to Ark City.
According to the City of Ark City Monday, the city recently received and approved building permits for the construction of a Starbucks coffee chain at the site of the former Hillcrest Lanes bowling alley at 2400 N. Summit.
Starbucks was founded in 1971 in Seattle, Washington. Since, it has grown to 35,711 stores in 80 countries, according to statista.com.
A spokesperson for the city told Cowley Post the developer is Brandon Haverty of Recor Properties out of Mission, Kansas — a Kansas City metro.
Richard and Patricia Doffing were the owners of Hillcrest Lanes for 30 years, which had been the bowling destination in Ark City for decades even prior to the Doffings’ ownership. In December, the family announced it had sold the property and that it would be closing. It’s final day of operation was Dec. 30.
Last week heavy construction equipment arrived at the property. The bowling alley building will be demolished, the city said.
