A new mural is going up this week on a building in the 100 block of N. Summit. It could be done as soon as Friday.

Art students from Cowley College and Ark City High School hand-painted panels with an Ark City postcard theme that includes various familiar images from this area. An Ark City Bulldog, Cowley Tiger and the train at Wilson Park are among the images included.

Now that the panels have been completed they are being placed on the building. Mark Dykes, graphic design instructor at Cowley, was on site this week securing the panels in place and working to smooth over any seams or other imperfections.

Depending on weather conditions, the mural could be complete by Friday, he said.

The panel design made it faster to paint a mural and safer to place it without having students on scaffolding, Dykes said.

Dykes and Cowley art instructor Mark Flickinger designed the mural and are installing it. The project was made possible by a donation from the V.J. Wilkins Foundation.
