A Georgia man arrested last week, following a standoff with police at a Winfield motel, remains in the custody of the Cowley County Jail.
Michael B. Parham, 48, is being held without bond pending a mental health evaluation at a state facility. Booking charges include battery and possession of stolen property.
Winfield Chief Robbie DeLong said Parham remains in jail until space is available at a facility in Larned. DeLong expected that transfer could happen anytime.
An incident began last week when Parham was said to have committed battery against an employee at a motel on Main. Police found a vehicle that Parham was driving and determined that the license plate on it was stolen.
A SWAT team was called to the motel and an hours-long standoff ensued before officers entered and placed Parham in custody
