Area firefighters were busy Wednesday morning with structure fires reported in Winfield and west of Ark City.
In Winfield, a fire was reported a little before 6 a.m. at 601 E. 13th. The home, which was unoccupied, was a total loss, according to the Winfield Fire Department.
Ark City, Burden and Udall fire departments assisted.
In rural Ark City, crews responded to a structure fire just after 7 a.m. in the 30000 block of 11th Road.
According to the ACFD, the house was occupied but everyone was able to escape. The cause of the fire is believed to be from an electric heater in a dog house.
Winfield, Udall, South Haven, Newkirk and Blackwell fire departments assisted.
“Great teamwork by all agencies involved,” the ACFD said.
