UPDATED: Ponca City Man Transferred To Wichita Hospital Following Rollover South Of Ark City

More details have been released on a rollover accident south of Ark City early Monday morning that severely injured a Ponca City man.

According to a news release from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon, a 2021 Honda Civic Sport driven by 39-year-old Patrick Smith went into the median near the 32000 block of U.S. 77, struck a raised portion and continued northbound causing extensive damage to the vehicle as it rolled several times in the southbound lanes of the highway.

The Ark City Fire Department extricated Smith from the vehicle.

A Ponca City man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries following an accident early Monday morning south of Ark City.

According to the ACFD, a passenger car rolled multiple times near 312th Road and U.S. 77. Crews were called to the scene at 5:41. a.m.

The driver, a 38-year-old Ponca City man, was transported to SCK Health north of Ark City and then transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

There were no passengers and no other vehicles were involved.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
