USD 470 has hired Cody Spencer to serve as head principal at Arkansas City Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year.
Spencer is currently an assistant principal and athletic director for 7th-12th grades at St. Mary’s Colgan Catholic Schools in Pittsburg, Kan., according to a news release Tuesday morning from the school district.
Prior to his time in Pittsburg, Spencer served as an intervention coordinator and a social studies teacher.
“After spending a good deal of time visiting with Mr. Spencer, our team is confident he will be a great fit,” USD 470 Superintendent Dr. Ron Ballard said. “He is well-suited to continue fostering a positive, successful school culture.”
Spencer said he is excited to meet the students and staff members that make Ark City schools a special place to be.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with a team of educators that have a genuine focus on ensuring the growth and success of every Ark City Middle School student,” Spencer said. “My goal is to be an educational leader that builds an ideal school culture through collaboration — ultimately helping students reach their full potential.”
Spencer will begin his duties as middle school principal this summer. He succeeds Robert Onelio who resigned earlier this year.
