Board members also discussed upcoming state requirements involving student cell phones. District officials said a new Kansas law taking effect for the 2026-27 school year will require phones and personal devices to be turned off and put away during the school day. USD 470 officials said the district’s current use of YONDR pouches at secondary schools already closely aligns with the new requirements.
District leaders also reported enrollment decreased by 14 students districtwide from the beginning to the end of the school year, though Adams, Jefferson and ACMS each saw enrollment growth during the year.
The board recognized multiple student and staff accomplishments during the meeting, including 25 ACMS students who earned high school Spanish credit through language proficiency assessments. April Top DAWGS recipients and several retiring employees were also recognized.
In personnel matters, the board approved several hirings, including Blake McDonald as head girls basketball coach at ACHS and Roger Foltz as counselor at ACHS.
