Candidates for the Kansas House 79th District seat answered questions on Medicaid expansion, education, the food sales tax, the future of abortion rights in Kansas following the aftermath of the statewide Aug. 2 vote on the legislature’s role in women’s healthcare and other topics Tuesday night in Winfield.

The winners of their respective primaries, Democrat Kris Trimmer of Winfield and Republican Webster Roth, also of Winfield, participated in the forum hosted and moderated by the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

The incumbent, Cheryl Helmer of the Mulvane area, lost to Roth in the Republican primary.

The midterm election will be Nov. 8.
