A vehicle fire – that caused some damage to a nearby garage – was extinguished by the Winfield Fire Dept. Sunday afternoon.
Around 3:10 p.m., fire crews were called to 1320 E. 12th in Winfield for the report of a vehicle on fire. They arrived to find that vehicle fully involved.
The fire was put out quickly, fire officials said, which allowed for mutual aid to be disregarded and kept the nearby structure from being further damaged.
An investigation determined the fire was unintentional and accidental in nature. An explosion was noticed by bystanders before firefighters arrived. It is believed that it came from the front driver side tire. (Continue story below ads.)
Owners of the vehicle said a recall was pending on the vehicle. There were no injuries reported.
Winfield Police, Ark City, Burden and Udall fire departments responded.
