Winfield Fire Chief Vince Warren has announced he will retire from his position in early fall, the city announced on its website Tuesday.
Warren has spent 28 years in fire service. He joined the Winfield Fire Dept. in Oct. 2002 as a firefighter and over the years steadily climbed the ranks.
He was named chief in 2017. Sept. 19 will be his official last day with the department.
“Chief Warren has served the Winfield community with unwavering dedication, professionalism, and compassion,” city officials said through a written statement on his retirement. “His tenure reflects a lifetime commitment to public safety and community service, and his leadership has helped shape the Winfield Fire-EMS Department into the respected institution it is today.”
Warren oversaw the department as it integrated EMS services into the fire department. He also played a central role in the planning and development of the new Winfield Fire-EMS station.
Reflecting on his career, Chief Warren described the department as a “second family.”
City Manager Taggart Wall remarked, “Chief Warren has been a great part of the storied Winfield Fire-EMS history. His leadership has ensured the department remains well respected not just in Winfield, but throughout the area. We are grateful for his years of service and wish him all the best in retirement.”
The City of Winfield will initiate a search for a new Fire Chief later this year.
Plans for a retirement celebration will be announced at a later date.
