A garage fire in Winfield has been ruled arson.
Winfield Fire/EMS were called to a report of a structure fire Sunday in the 1100 block of Lowry.
According to a news release from Winfield Fire Marshal Chad Mayberry Monday, crews were dispatched at 8:03 p.m. Sunday and found a detached garage near an alley that had heavy fire involvement.
“The cause of the fire was determined to be arson,” the fire department said. “We ask that anyone with any information regarding this fire contact the Winfield Police Department at 620-221-5447 or the Winfield Fire Marshal at 620-221-5560.”
Crews were able to extinguish the blaze in approximately 30 minutes.
Fire departments from Ark City, Udall and Burden responded via automatic aid, however Udall and Burden were canalled prior to their arrival on scene. The Winfield Police Department, Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and City of Winfield Electric Department assisted at the scene.
A total of 10 firefighters were on scene.
The structure is considered a total loss and the fire investigation is ongoing, Mayberry said.
