Mychael Tripp – former head coach of the Winfield High School boys basketball team – has been formally terminated by his employer, USD 465.

The move was made at a special meeting of the district’s board of education that was held Monday night in Winfield. An investigation into his conduct had begun last week.

No details on that investigation have been released. Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong said police were conducting an investigation into the matter and were in the early stages of it. He offered no additional information.

Assistant coach Matt Shelton will be in charge of head coaching duties through the remainder of the season. Tripp was in his first year as head coach.

When Shelton was contacted for comment Tuesday he said “I’m looking forward to finishing these last eight games in February, at our best, so that we can make a push into the playoffs.”
