Winfield house fire contained to second story; No injuries, cat rescued

Everyone inside a Winfield home was able to escape safely from a house fire late Saturday morning. A family cat was rescued.

Around 11:20 a.m., Winfield Fire Dept. was called to 1021 E. Eighth for the report of a fire. They arrived to find a two-story home with smoking coming from the second floor.

The fire was attacked aggressively, according to a report from the department, and fire was contained to the upper floor. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate has been made public, so far.

Investigators have determined the fire was not arson, and are continuing to investigate a cause and point of origin. Resident escaped with a cat and a second cat was located by firefighters and safely returned to occupants of the home.

Ark City, Burden and Udall firefighters assisted at the scene.
