A Winfield man remains in jail in Oklahoma more than a week after a lengthy run from the law that passed through several counties and lasted for a few hours.
26-year-old Tanner L. Lowe was booked into the Osage County Jail in Pawhuska on July 5. Charges against him include attempting to elude law enforcement, not wearing a seatbelt and receiving, possessing or concealing stolen property.
Lowe had already led other law enforcement agencies on a pursuit when he drove into Osage County that Friday afternoon. Kansas officials had notified the Osage County Sheriff’s office that Lowe was driving a vehicle with a stolen license plate.
When Osage deputies attempted to stop Lowe on State Highway 99, he led them on a high speed chase, according to that office’s Facebook page. He lost control of the vehicle, had an accident and was then taken into custody on Skyline Dr.
He was booked into jail around 3:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 and has remained there ever since.
Winfield Police Chief Robbie DeLong said the pursuit in Kansas began around 11 a.m. when authorities were alerted of a stolen plate detected by FLOCK. That is an AI operated series of cameras used nationwide to detect suspect vehicles and license plates so that authorities can be alerted.
DeLong said a traffic stop was attempted in Winfield but Lowe fled north on College. Local police, with assistance from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept., pursued Lowe until he reached Butler County. (Continue story below ads.)
That pursuit was discontinued due to safety concerns for the general public, DeLong said. Winfield police were eventually notified that Lowe was in custody in Oklahoma.
Multiple agencies across several counties then attempted to apprehend Lowe, before he was arrested. Thus other charges could be pending in other jurisdictions.
