Winfield music students perform at regionals; Many move on to state April 27

Winfield High School sent Band, Choir, and Orchestra students to Kansas State High School Activities Association’s Regional Solo/Small Ensemble Contest on Saturday, April 5th at Andover High School with directors and assistants Taton Bennett, Teddi Ricketts, MJ Harper, Sarah Jane Naillon, and Ismail Farid. 

Students were required to practice and prepare music outside of class. Accompanists Robbie Banks, Billy Bearden, Sarah Jane Naillon, and Sara Weinert were available to assist the 23 soloists and 9 ensembles. Musicians perform beginning at 8 a.m. for judges that assign each solo or ensemble a rating. 

KSHSAA ratings range from I-Outstanding to V-Ineffective and take into account note and rhythm accuracy as well as expression, technique, stage presence, and more. 

Soloists earned these ratings at Regional Solo/Small Ensemble Contest: Ava-Grace Winters: II-Excellent, Eli Hubble: I-Outstanding, Elana Crow: I-Outstanding, Haiden Tilley: II-Excellent, Paul Do: I-Outstanding, Quivon Syvoranvong: II-Excellent, Kayden Tarver: II-Excellent, Shia Solis-Holder: II-Excellent, Rhyanna Richert, Violin: II-Excellent, Brelee Shamburg, Violin: II-Excellent, Rawson Ray, Cello: II-Excellent, Autumn Ross-Underwood, Violin: I-Outstanding, Crystal Weng, Viola: II-Excellent, Ava Torrance, Violin: II-Excellent, Riley Brooks, Viola: II-Excellent, Laura Dutton, Viola: I-Outstanding, and Quincee Jeffries, Violin: II-Excellent. 

Ensembles earned these ratings at Regional Solo/Small Ensemble Contest: Saxophone Ensemble (John Adams, Seraphina Goodson, Olivia Jaeger, Brant Myers, & Samuel Ramirez): II-Excellent, Clarinet Trio (Brook Brogan, Haley Brogan, & Mattie Smith): I-Outstanding, Viking Voices: II-Excellent (Nathan Curran, Hanna Dunn, Alia Dust, Oliver Karagianis, Ruthie Lashier, Olivia Lybarger, Levi Maybrier, Cora Lee Moon, Matthew Palmitier, Kate Siok, Nadia Smith, Isaiah Steele, & Kayden Tarver), Viola Choir: ( Laura Dutton, Robert Meyer, Matthew Prakonekham, Cristina Ramirez): II-Excellent, String Ensemble 4: (Rawson Ray, Autumn Ross-Underwood, & Lucas Seidel) II-Excellent, Cello Choir:

Musicians moving on to KSHSAA State Solo/Small Ensemble Contest will perform on Saturday, April 27 at Andover Central High School.
