“This is due to inclement weather and potentially dangerous travel conditions,” Ark City School District Director of Communications Alisha Call stated in an email from the school district Sunday night.

Ark City and Winfield school districts canceled school for Tuesday due to expected windchills of 15 to 30 below zero overnight and into Tuesday morning.
“Due to the extreme cold and dangerous windchill factors predicted by the National Weather Service, Arkansas City Public Schools will not be in session tomorrow, January 16, 2024,” the district stated on its Facebook page Monday afternoon. “The predicted temperatures can make it difficult for buses to run and to keep schools warm.
“We also have many students who walk or wait outside at bus stops. We know this can cause a burden on families but we appreciate your understanding and hope everyone can stay safe and warm tomorrow.”
