Delbert Harold Peters, 93, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, March 12, 2026, at his home.
Born August 8, 1932, in Winfield, he was the son of Aubry Harold and Pearl (Firebaugh) Peters. He was raised on a farm in the Tisdale community and attended rural grade schools. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1950. He joined the United States Army and proudly served his country two years active service and another six years in the Army Reserve, receiving an honorable discharge.
As a young man, Delbert worked on the farm with his father and later worked on an oil drilling rig from 1952 to 1954. He then began his 45 year career in the auto repair industry. Nineteen of those years, he co-owned and operated the Jeep dealership in Burden.
Delbert was united in marriage to Mary Christine Williard on August 16, 1958 at Tisdale Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Winfield. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed working on and collecting clocks, especially Cuckoo Clocks, going to auctions, working on puzzles, mowing his lawn, collecting and restoring antique toys and John Deere memorabilia, and riding his tractor. He was known for his dry wit.
His family includes his wife Christine Peters of Winfield; his son Ricky Peters; his daughters, Crystal Winegarner and husband, Graydon; Jewell Marymee and husband Wally; his grandchildren, Aubry Peters, Amanda Medina, Trisha Winegarner, Joshua Winegarner, Nicole Winegarner, Emily Trullinger, and Andrew Marymee; his great grandchildren, Landon, Kyler, and Jaxton Trullinger, Parker Hansen, Derek Medina, and William Marymee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his sisters, Clara Parsons and Dorothy Kearns, a grandson Ashley Anderson, and a great granddaughter Kyra Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Delbert’s name for the First Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
