AC hoops loses pair of games to Andover Central; Hosts Hutch Friday

The Arkansas City High School girls basketball team shot only 14.8 percent and committed 31 turnovers in a 57-13 home loss to Andover Central on Tuesday.

Already playing without leading scorer Maliyah Bell, who was sidelined due to injury, the Bulldogs lost senior Lakyn Hale to injury midway through the second quarter.

The Jaguars raced out to a 16-2 lead and led 27-7 at the end of the first half. Andover Central held Ark City scoreless in a 17-0 third quarter and cruised to the 44-point win.

Andover Central’s Lainey Tyner went 4-of-4 from three-point range and led all scorers with 16 points. Lakyn Hale and Ava Headrick led Ark City with four points apiece as the Bulldogs fell to 1-4.

The Arkansas City High School boys basketball team scored a season-high 60 points but it was not enough as they suffered a 67-60 home loss against Andover Central on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs played the game without leading scorer Trevin Miller, who was out due to illness.

Ark City got a season-high 18 points and 19 rebounds from senior Darrius Stanley and led midway through the third quarter before Andover Central took a 53-50 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

The Bulldogs had no answer for the Jaguars’ Carter Inslee as the guard went 12-of-16 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the foul line to finish with 32 points. Jace Gauge added 19 points on six three-pointers as Andover Central held on for the seven-point road win.

Jaxson Jackson added 13 points for the Bulldogs, who are now 1-4 on the season.

The Ark City Basketball teams will host Hutchinson on Friday at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
