A gust of wind Friday afternoon led to an airplane accident at Strother Field that caused major damage to the prop and left wing of the aircraft, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

60-year-old John G. Swofford, Fort Worth, Texas, was the pilot of the 2004 KitFox Series 7 aircraft involved in the crash. He was wearing a safety restraint and was not injured.

Around 2:30 p.m. the day of the accident, the aircraft was enroute from Stol Creek Aviation in Whitewater, Kan. to a final destination of Fort Worth. Following a three-point landing at Strother Field airfield, a gust of wind caused the aircraft to lose control and the pilot was unable to correct the aircraft, according to a report from the highway patrol. (Continue story below ads.)
