A Kansas Department of Transportation resurfacing project on K-55 in Sumner and Cowley counties will start later this month.
The project will start the week of June 16, weather permitting.
The project is in Sumner County from the K-55/U.S. 81 junction east to the Sumner/Cowley county line and in Cowley County, from the Sumner/Cowley county line east to the K-15/K-55 junction, excluding the city of Belle Plaine. The project involves a pavement recycle and overlay. The distance is 12 miles.
Traffic will be guided through the work zone with flaggers and a pilot car, and motorists should be prepared to stop and expect delays of up to 15 minutes. There will be a 10-foot width restriction in the construction zone.
The work is designed to correct minor unevenness in the pavement and improve the grade and slope.
Crews hope to be finished in August, weather permitting.
Dustrol Inc., based in Towanda, is the primary contractor for the $1.5 million project.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones.
