WINFIELD – William Newton Hospital has finalized an agreement with Alloy Architecture to design a new emergency department, a key step forward as fundraising for the project nears its goal, according to a written release from the hospital.

Representatives from the hospital, the William Newton Healthcare Foundation and Alloy recently gathered at the hospital entrance to mark the milestone tied to the Second Century Campaign.

As of late January, $7.3 million has been raised toward the $8 million goal needed for the emergency department expansion and renovation, the hospital said.

The project will be funded entirely through philanthropic support secured by the Foundation’s capital campaign.

Hospital officials say the work is aimed at modernizing a facility last significantly renovated in 1981, with upgrades focused on improving safety, privacy, efficiency and accessibility as patient demand continues to grow in the region.

“We’ve got our hard hats ready,” Ben Walter, managing principal at Alloy Architecture, said in the release. Continue below ad.

William Newton Healthcare Foundation Executive Director Annika Morris said the milestone reflects years of community support.

“The fundraising for the emergency department started in 2019, so we are excited for donors to see this progress,” Morris said. “We are so close to our goal.”

The William Newton Healthcare Foundation, established in 2007, continues to lead fundraising efforts to support the hospital’s long-term needs.

More information about the campaign, or how to contribute, is available at WNHFoundation.org or by contacting Morris at 620-222-6276.
