The late Rick Meyer was inducted into the Kansas Fairs & Festivals Association Hall of Fame Friday.
Meyer, a longtime fixture in the background of the everyday operation of the City of Winfield and the big events every year like the Walnut Valley Festival, the Cowley County Fair, K&O Steam and Gas Engine Show, Winfield Isle of Lights, several local organizations and everything in between, passed away Sept. 30 at the age of 71.
“Long overdue,” a statement from the Cowley County Fair’s Facebook page said Friday. “Rick always said he didn’t deserve to be in the Fairs & Festivals Hall of Fame. Not long before he passed away, Rick gave in and allowed our fair nomination committee to nominate him for the Hall of Fame this year.
“We only wish Rick could have been in attendance to accept the honor. Fly high, sir.”
