Current Cowley County Appraiser Lori Reedy has died, according to a statement released Wednesday morning by county administrator Lucas Goff.

Reedy had served in her position since 2017 and was about a year short of completing a second four-year appointment. No details of her death have been made public, thus far.

In an interview by phone Wednesday afternoon, Goff said the death was completely unexpected. Reedy died Tuesday. Goff said she was to be away from the office to tend to a medical issue, but had been expected to return within a few days.

“There is a great deal of mourning going on today,” he said. “It’s a tight-knit group. A very strong team that’s in place there.”

Goff made a stop in Topeka as part of a regularly scheduled trip to Kansas City on Wednesday. In Topeka, he met with state officials who oversee the operation of county appraiser offices across the state. State statute dictates what specifically must be done when the position is open in a particular county.

Goff said an interim appraiser will be named soon. Commissioners are expected address the matter at their next meeting.

“Obviously its a very sad time,” he said. “But from an operational standpoint we are in a very good place and have to be ready to move forward.”

Goff released this public notice in regard to Reedy’s passing:
