An investigation is continuing into an accident Sept. 20 that claimed the life of Ark City’s Maleah Archer. Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti said his office believes Archer, 21, was driving the vehicle.
“Right now all indications are that the female was driving,” he said, in response to questions from Cowley Post. “We are still waiting on toxicology.”
Just after the accident occurred, investigators said it was unclear who was operating the vehicle that crashed in a single-vehicle rollover on 61st Rd. south of Ark City.
Archer was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, 30-year-old Andy Owen Minnie, also of Ark City, was removed from the vehicle by Ark City Fire and EMS.
When asked if Minnie had been interviewed during the course of the investigation, Falletti said “all parties have been interviewed.” Continue story below ad.
Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, according to the sheriff’s dept.
Around 7 a.m., deputies were sent to the 32000 block of 61st for the report of a rollover accident. A 2012 white Nissan was northbound on that road and lost control.
It entered the east ditch and rolled several times before coming to rest against a tree in the yard of a home.
