Neosho Falls man dies after vehicle enters river on 81 north of Wellington

A 73-year-old Neosho Falls man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his vehicle overturned into a river about 10 miles north of Wellington.

Edward Fitzpatrick was in the northbound lane of U.S. 81 highway when he his 2007 Chevy Silverado went off the road for unknown reasons, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The truck entered the north ditch overcorrecting and then striking a barrier.

It continued through the ditch and entered the Ninnescah River a few miles west of Belle Plaine. The truck came to rest on its roof in the river.

Fitzpatrick was transported to Wesley Medical Center and pronounced dead. Next of kin was then notified. He was wearing a seat belt.
