A structure fire Monday afternoon did extensive damage to a local residence, according to Ark City Fire-EMS officials.
Around 3:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a 911 call reporting a fire in the 1500 block of N. 3rd. Firefighters arrived to find a single-story, wood-frame home with visible smoke and flames.
The residence’s occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived and informed crews that everyone was accounted for. Firefighters swiftly brought the fire under control within approximately 15 minutes. While searching the home, two pet cats were located and safely removed.
The residence sustained extensive fire and smoke damage throughout. The fire originated from an electric generator and has been determined to be accidental. An estimate of the monetary loss is not yet available.
The Winfield Fire Department also responded.
