An extensive search was being conducted Tuesday for a missing Overland Park woman for whom a statewide Silver Alert was recently issued.
81-year-old Jerry McConnell’s vehicle was found abandoned in an area near Cambridge in Cowley County, Sheriff David Falletti said by phone this evening. The missing woman was not found.
Falletti described the search area as an “extremely large rural area.”
An aerial search was conducted through the evening. Searching was to continue until it became too dark, Falletti said, and will begin again at daybreak.
The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office said McConnell’s vehicle plate had been detected travelling west on U.S. 160 at 327th Rd. in Cowley County on May 15. Further information on her location had not been verified until today.
