Remains located in the southwest portion of Cowley County Wednesday could be connected to a missing person case reported in Sumner County, officials said this evening.
Cowley Sheriff David Falletti told Cowley Post late tonight that his office will wait on positive identification of the remains before releasing additional information.
“I try never to assume,” he said.
An autopsy has been scheduled with the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center in Wichita.
The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office was contacted once remains were found, as they have recently issued a missing person report for Emilie Porterfield-Hill. The 39-year-old woman was last seen last week near Mid-America Drag Strip.
Cowley and Sumner county authorities are working closely with one another, according to a statement from the Cowley Sheriff’s dept.
At approximately 2:46 p.m. Wednesday, deputies with the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a private residence for the report of a possible human body by a pond. When deputies arrived, the homeowner took them to the location where the remains were located.
Investigators contacted the Arkansas City Fire Department who assisted by retrieving the remains.
