After months of planning and preparation, the Walnut Valley Bombers have officially announced their return as Cowley County’s semi-pro basketball team. With a new brand identity and renewed focus on community connection, the Bombers are entering the next stage of development as they gear up for their 2026 pilot season.
The team was founded to give local athletes a platform to continue competing while inspiring the next generation of players. The Bombers operate under Midtown Basketball Co., a regional organization dedicated to athletic and community development across southern Kansas.
But the mission extends beyond basketball. Before finalizing their roster and league registration, the Bombers are launching a countywide engagement effort that includes youth outreach programs, learning initiatives in local schools, and partnerships with area businesses designed to boost tourism and economic activity.
“This is more than basketball — it’s about creating opportunity and pride for our community,” said Tyler O’Quinn, founder, managing partner and governor, president of basketball operations, and general manager. “We’re building something that belongs to Cowley County.”
The team plans to host open tryouts, community events, and fan experiences leading up to its 2026 season. Residents are encouraged to get involved early as “Founding Fans” or donors.
More information, including updates on tryouts and events, is available at wvbombers.com. Fans can also follow the team on social media — Instagram @wvbombers, X/Twitter @thewvbombers, and Facebook Walnut Valley Bombers.
