Mulvane blows past the Vikings Thursday night in Winfield
WINFIELD – It’s not Halloween just yet, but the Winfield Viking football team will have haunting memories of the name Myers as Manny and Grady combined for six touchdowns and guided the Mulvane Wildcats to a 56-7 win on Senior Night at Jantz Stadium.
Manny Myers, Mulvane’s senior quarterback, scored two offensive touchdowns from 40 and 28 yards out, threw a 17-yard TD pass to Hays Ensley, and intercepted an Elijah Bergeson option pass and returned it 70 yards for another score. Grady Myers, Mulvane’s junior running back scored from 5, 48, and 51 yards. He ended the night with 21 carries for 226 yards rushing. Manny had 10 carries for 111 yards.
Mulvane’s defense and special teams play was just as stellar. Winfield didn’t collect their first first down until the 2nd quarter. On the night, Winfield was 0-8 on third down. For the special teams, Mulvane’s kickoff coverage was suffocating as Winfield bobbled several kickoffs for very little return yardage. The Wildcats also blocked a Kellen Gibson punt out of the end zone for a safety.
A key stretch of the game, as it was last week at Buhler, the Vikings allowed a late second quarter score and quick third quarter score. Mulvane, leading 22-0, was able to score a touchdown with :21 left in the first half on the Myers TD pass to Ensley. Mulvane received the third quarter kickoff and took just two plays to go 65 yards for a touchdown, and lead 35-0.
Winfield finishes the regular season with a record of 1-7 and will be the #14 seed in the upcoming playoffs. Winfield is tied with Circle and has a worse average point difference. But the Vikings won their game against the T-Birds earlier this season giving them the tie-break advantage. Mulvane finishes 7-1 and can do no worse than the #2 seed in week 9.

Armstrong’s monster rushing night propels Wellington easily past El Dorado
EL DORADO – Senior running back Jalik Armstrong ran for nearly 300 yards and scored five touchdowns as Wellington bested the Wildcats 62-0. The Crusaders finish the regular season at 6-2.
It was a rocky start for Wellington who had two early turnovers with backup quarterback Cole Zeka behind center. He replaced starter Colton Elmore, who was out due to injury.
Sluggish beginnings gave way to a barrage of points from an attack led by Armstrong who tallied 287 yards rushing and four running touchdowns. He also caught an 8-yard touchdown pass.
His ground performance Thursday produced a total that’s top 10 all time for Wellington backs.
Zeka threw for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
