Arkansas City commissioners held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to mark the opening of a new splash pad at Wilson Park, a long-planned improvement aimed at expanding family-friendly amenities in the city’s central park.
The approximately 3,600-square-foot splash pad is located near Birch Street between First and Second streets and features interactive water play zones for all ages, including a toddler area, high-energy spray features, shaded seating, benches and picnic tables. The space is ADA-accessible and designed to encourage longer family visits.
The splash pad project was completed with funding from the city’s Capital Improvement Plan, with additional in-kind support from city departments for site preparation, plumbing connections and landscaping, helping reduce overall costs while tying the feature into existing park infrastructure.
