WINFIELD — A Burden-based nonprofit focused on helping families in need has been selected to receive a $1,000 grant through Southwestern College’s student-led philanthropy program.
Joseph’s Storehouse, a thrift store located at 424 N. Main St. in Burden, was chosen by the Southwestern College Philanthropy Board following a review process that included the college’s Non-Profit Leadership class and the Legacy Foundation.
The nonprofit, which operates under Sunflower Service Outreach, plans to use the funding to support its “Together We Eat” program. The initiative focuses on relieving hunger among children and young adults, primarily in eastern Cowley County, while also assisting partner organizations in Winfield and Arkansas City.
An awards ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at College Hill Coffee in Winfield, where members of the Philanthropy Board, the Non-Profit Leadership class and Legacy Foundation representatives will formally present the grant.
