Fire at vacant house in Winfield Friday is considered suspicious officials say

Investigators are looking into a suspicious fire that damaged a vacant home in Winfield early Friday morning.

According to Interim Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Pete Rowley, Winfield Fire/EMS crews were dispatched just before 7 a.m. to a reported structure fire at 810 Walton. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the side of the residence.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control before conducting a primary search of the home. Rowley said no occupants were found inside, and the residence was determined to be vacant. No injuries to civilians or emergency personnel were reported.

The fire has been classified as suspicious, and Winfield Fire/EMS investigators are working with the Winfield Police Department to determine what caused it. Continue below ad.

Firefighters from Burden, Arkansas City and Udall assisted at the scene, along with the Winfield Police Department, City Utilities and Cowley County Emergency Communications.
