A Winfield man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured another driver Monday evening on U.S. 77 Highway near Strother Field.
Bryan Gregg Ehling, 50, was arrested after information from the public helped Cowley County Sheriff’s deputies identify the white Jeep Wrangler believed to have been involved in the Aug. 10 collision.
Cowley County Jail records show Ehling was booked on a felony count of failing to report an accident, along with two misdemeanor traffic offenses.
He was also being held for failure to comply in a separate district court matter, according to jail records.
The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 77 and 222nd Road.
According to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, a 1992 blue Ford F-150 driven by 61-year-old Guadalupe Diaz, of Winfield, was traveling north on U.S. 77 when it was struck by a white Jeep that entered the highway from 222nd Road. Continue story below ad.
The Jeep left the scene following the collision.
Diaz was transported by EagleMed to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita following the crash. The extent of his injuries has not been released.
Following the collision, the sheriff’s office asked the public for information regarding the white Jeep, its owner or the person driving it.
Those tips ultimately helped investigators identify the vehicle and led to Ehling’s arrest, authorities said Thursday.
“The information provided by members of the public assisted deputies in identifying the white Jeep Wrangler involved in the collision and led to the arrest of the driver,” the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities thanked the community for its assistance in moving the investigation forward.
The sheriff’s office said no further information would be released at this time.
